Published Research study

Two pre-registered studies of 106 firms and 285 AI mentions, testing whether a structural AI visibility score predicts who assistants recommend. It didn’t. Company size did.

66 of 106 firms were never named once by ChatGPT or Perplexity

The AI Visibility Study tested the claim the AI visibility category is built on: that improving a site’s structure gets a company recommended by AI assistants. Across two pre-registered studies, 106 firms and 285 AI mentions, the structural score didn’t predict who got recommended. Company size did.

How was it run?

The hypothesis, the statistical test and the rules for reading the result were written down and dated before a single query ran. The two studies used industries chosen to be as different as possible, and the first sampled the 64 firms in the WordPress VIP partner directory.

What makes it different?

Every correction is published. When a later check found mechanical errors in the analysis, the results were rerun and the wrong numbers are shown beside the right ones, with each amendment dated and explained. The protocols, results and raw mention data are all public.
